Carbon fiber has been one of the potential candidates in various applications, owing to its superior properties, high specific modulus, low density, good thermal stability and high shock resistance. In recent years, there has been increasing interest in the development and research of carbon fiber. Particularly, carbon fiber can be applied in high temperatures (3000 。C) under inert atmospheric con- dition. Nevertheless, the applications are strongly limited by its poor oxidation in an oxygen-containing atmosphere above 500 。C . The problem can be overcome by depositing an oxidation-resistant coating in order to protect carbon fiber from oxidation and mass loss, thereby main- taining its mechanical properties. The ceramic coating acts as a diffusion barrier for oxygen, which improves the oxidation resistance of carbon fiber and widens its appli- cation areas
